Founded by Teri Johnson (also the founder of Harlem Candle Company), Harlem Perfume Co. launched in 2022 as a luxury fine fragrance house rooted in Harlem Renaissance history. Each perfume is named after and inspired by icons: Billie Holiday, Josephine Baker, Duke Ellington, Langston Hughes, and Eartha Kitt (the latter in collaboration with Kitt's daughter Kitt Shapiro). In 2024 the brand entered Sephora's Accelerate program. Fragrances are crafted with world-renowned perfumers including Ilias Ermenidis, Honorine Blanc, Hamid Merati-Kashani, and Bérénice Watteau.
