New Orleans' original West African restaurant, open since 1992 and rooted in the culinary traditions of Gambia and Cameroon. Starting in Old Metairie and now in the French Quarter on Royal Street, Bennachin serves authentic African dishes in a colorful atmosphere of Afrobeats music videos and African art. Signature dishes include jama-jama (sautéed spinach), fried plantains, jollof rice, poulet fricassee (chicken on a stick), peanut soup, akara black-eyed pea fritters, and fufu. Vegan and vegetarian options throughout the menu. No alcohol served.
